Aerial tissue, also known as aerial silk and aerial contortion is a type of performance in which an or artist performs aerial acrobatics while hanging from a silk fabric. They use the fabric to wrap, suspend, fall, swing, and spiral their bodies into and out of various positions. Aerial silks may be used to fly through the air, striking poses and figures while flying.
It first began in the french circus and quickly spread around the world, now being a common feature in most high level circus performances. It is popular especially amongst woman as it increases body flexibility and upper body strength.
At Powerarts there are classes for all levels of aerial tissue from basic right through to advanced and for kids also. The basic classes will focus on mostly developing the required strength and flexibility needed for the tricks and drops learned from intermediate levels.
